Scope and Contents

There are five folders in this collection, which contain correspondence, magazine/ journal pages, and photographic materials. Correspondence includes 7 postcards and 5 letters, dating between 1944-1951, from Weston to Tellaisha concerning a purchase of photographs, and 1 letter dated 1956 from Brett Weston (1911-1993), photographer and son of Edward Weston, to Tellaisha proposing a meeting. Other materials include a review from Saturday Review of the film "The Photographer" (1947) directed by Willard Van Dyke; an Encyclopedia Britannica Library Resource Service report on Edward Weston (5 pages); a wrapper from photographs in Weston's handwriting (1944); and a portrait of Weston.

Biographical Note

John V. Tellaisha was born February 15, 1913 in Rockford, Illinois. A musician and educator, Tellaisha was a graduate of both Illinois Wesleyan and Northwestern Universities with Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. In 1940, he met photographer Edward Weston at a Camera Craft Conclave in Oakland, California. It was through Weston that Tellaisha became acquainted with Ansel Adams, and went on to attend the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco where he worked with Minor White, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and other photographers. Tellaisha passed away on August 1, 2006 in Plantation, Florida.
