Content Description
Series 1 contains items from the various projects that Alexander was a part of in his career. These projects include books, auction sales, international conferences, magazines, and organizations. The bulk of this series is made up of papers and press materials.
Series 2 contains materials related to exhibits Alexander was a part of in a curatorial capacity. Materials include correspondence, exhibit layout plans, copies of the photographs used in these exhibits, materials related to creation of exhibit books, and artist files.
Series 3 holds various publications that Alexander donated to the collection. Some of these items, like the Christie's catalogs, contain annotations from Alexander to denote in what ways he helped in the creation of said catalog or the actual prices the items went for in the final auction. Also included is various bookdealer catalogs starting from the 1980s. French journals exploring the art of photography and the study of the photograpy is also included.
Series 4 is made up of one scrapbook that is related to the Moving Walls exhibit that Alexander was a part of for many years. The scrapbook contains snippets from various years.
Series 5 is photographic material found inside project files and exhibit files that was separated for preservation issues. The slides and prints found in this series are from artists that were showcased in exhibits that Alexander was a part of, for example the Robert Cappa award exhibit.

Biographical / Historical
Stuart R. Alexander is an editor, consultant, curator, independent scholar and archivist who has worked for numerous projects around the world. Alexander earliest work was the Center for Creative Photography as an archivist, around the same time he completed his MA in art history from the University of Arizona. He has developed many texts for catalogs and books showcasing the art and history of photography. He had close collaborations with auction houses such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s, one example being a Christie’s auction of the works by Richard Avedon. Alexander has been a consultant for many exhibits around the world pertaining to photography and has been a part of organizations looking into the field the photography. He is currently the editor in chief for the book publisher Delpire Éditeur located in Paris, France.

Abstract
The Stuart Alexander Collection consists of books, bookdealer catalogues, sales records, magazines, exhibition files, auction sale files, and a scrapbook. The materials range from the beginning of Alexander’s career as a curator, photography historian, editor, and auction specialist in the 1980s to the 1990s and 2000s.
