Scope and Contents
This collection contains papers, 1930s through 1980s, of Virginia Stevens (1912? - ) actress and writer, who was the second wife of Paul Strand from 1936-1949. Includes correspondence, clippings, photographs, exhibition catalogs, pamphlets, manuscript text of speeches, and other writings by Paul Strand. Subjects covered include Stieglitz, Time in New England, the Mexican Portfolio, films, and other exhibitions of Strand's work.
The Virginia Stevens Collection is contained in twenty-two folders in one box. In subgroup 1 there are five original handwritten letters from Strand to Stevens, miscellaneous clippings regarding Strand, Stevens’ acting resume, and snapshots of Strand. Subgroup 2 contains 29 letters from Strand to Stevens, miscellaneous other correspondence, exhibition announcements, publications, and articles, as well as manuscripts and twenty-eight pages of autobiographical notes.

Biographical Note
Virginia Stevens was photographer Paul Strand’s second marriage lasting from 1936 to 1949. She was known for being a stage actress.
