Scope and Contents

The Bernard Plossu archive consists of biographical materials, writings by Plossu, and various clippings, followed by activity files, commercial projects and exhibitions, monograph and periodical publications, one book dummy, oversized material, and posters. The collection consists of 12 boxes total, with the last box containing miscellaneous new acquisitions made up of monographs and clippings.

Biographical Note

Bernard Plossu (born 1945), born in Vietnam, is a renowned French photographer who has worked all over the world. Inspired by filmmaking, American counter-culture, and the aesthetics of the New Wave, Plossu started his photographic career in the 1960s, crafting a beautiful aesthetic that conveys the intimacy of observing the world through the romance and solitude of travel. His many publications include So Long and ¡Vámonos! Bernard Plossu in México.

Abstract

Writings, clippings, exhibition announcements, interviews, postcards, color transparencies, and publications, 1970 – to date, by and about Bernard Plossu (1945 - ), photographer and teacher. The bulk of the collection consists of books, periodicals, clippings, and various other materials documenting Plossu's exhibitions and publications.

Arrangement

The Collection has no formal arrangement. The collection includes biographical materials, writings by Plossu, clippings, workshops, honors and awards, interviews, publications, commercial projects, posters, and photographic materials.

Custodial History

The collection began in 1983 and continues through donations from Bernard Plossu to the CCP.

Accruals

Additional materials were received in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013.

Processing Information

Processed in 1985. Revised in 1989, 1998, 2004, and 2017.
