Biographical Note
Mark Alice Durant is a photographer, performance artist, and writer, who was born in Massachusetts in 1955. He received his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and later received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. In 1991 he co-founded the performance duo “Men of the World,” which performed on the streets of cities including Chicago, Toronto, Seattle, New York, Houston, and San Francisco until 1999. In 1999 Durant turned to writing on photography, performance, visual culture, and contemporary art. He has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, UCLA, the University of New Mexico, Syracuse University, Bard College, and most recently the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In 2011 Durant founded the online journal Saint-Lucy.com and in 2016 founded Saint Lucy Books.
