This collection contains photocopies of an untitled lecture (?) or reminiscences by John G. Morris (1916-2017), about his career and interaction with other photographers, 1937-1974. Morris was an editor for Life and The New York Times. He also was a founding member of the Magnum Photo Agency. Includes eighteen transparencies and a caption list, circa 1980. The collection is inactive.

Biographical Note

John G. Morris was born on December 7, 1916 in Maple Shade, New Jersey. Morris was a photo editor and was responsible for photographs that were ultimately used in publications such as Life and The New York Times. Morris also worked for Ladies Home Journal and The Washington Post. In 1983 Morris moved to Paris where he worked as the European correspondent for National Geographic. Morris turned 100 years old in December of 2016 and passed away in 2017.

The materials found in this collection were withdrawn from MISCELLANEOUS SMALL COLLECTIONS (AG 8, Subgroup 10) by Kristi Bradford in April, 1990. The finding aid was updated by Phoenix Smithey in March 2017 and by Tai Huesgen in December 2020.
