Scope and Contents

The Vivienne Silver collection contains materials related to the master’s thesis of Vivienne Silver-Brody while at the University of Arizona, Tucson, titled “The artistic development and evolution of Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Mexican photographer, as seen through his nudes,” 1980.

Series 1 of the Vivienne Silver collection contains transcripts of interviews with Manuel Álvarez Bravo about his photographs of the nude. They are in English.

Series 2 contains nineteen audiocassettes of interviews in French, Spanish, and English about Manuel Álvarez Bravo, from July and August 1979.

Biographical Note

Vivienne Silver-Brody is a photo historian, free-lance curator, and teacher. Her specialty is in collecting Israeli photography. In 1985 she opened the Silver Print Gallery in Jerusalem, the first of its kind in the area.

Abstract

This collection contains nineteen 60-minute audiocassettes of interviews done by Vivienne Silver-Brody, historian, for her master’s thesis at the University of Arizona, Tucson. The subject of the interviews was Manuel Álvarez Bravo (1902-2002), photographer, and his photography of the nude. The interviews took place in July and August, 1979. The collection also includes photocopies of transcripts with handwritten notations. The collection is inactive.

The collection was a gift of Vivienne Silver-Brody, 1980.
