Scope and Contents

The Rachel Homer Exhibition and Book Announcement Collection consists of promotional literature from the photography world, including exhibition announcements and book publication notices. These range from the 1960s to 2000s. Also included are three Library of Congress publications from the 1950s about their photographic collections.

Biographical Note

Rachel Johnston Homer is a collector and author of photography. She has authored two books: The Legacy of Josiah Johnson Hawes: 19th Century Photographs of Boston, 1972 as well as Photographs from the Boston Public Library, 1970. Homer worked at the Boston Public Library as a visiting scholar Fellow under the mentorship of Sinclair Hitchings, Curator of Prints. Homer was also a research assistant to Davis Pratt, Curator of Photography at the Fogg Museum of Harvard University. Homer also worked at the Boulder Public Library and as a Photograph Librarian at the Colorado Historical Society in the late 1970s. Homer now spends her days at sea as a licensed Captain and First Mate.
