The Ferenc Berko Miscellaneous Acquisitions Collection is made up of one red sign stating “Berko Photography” that was worn on a ski jacket and a business card given to people to encourage them to visit the Berko Gallery after skiing.

Biographical Note

From 1951 until his death in 2000, Berko was a filmmaker, and advertising and documentary photographer in Aspen. He was the official photographer for the Aspen Institute and Aspen Music Festival until the late 1980s. During the winter Berko would photograph skiers on the mountains. BERKO Photo, which he began himself in 1949, is still open and run by one of his granddaughters. (Website)

This collection contains materials pertaining to the life and career of Ferenc Berko (1916-2000), photographer. Each group of materials will be described separately. The collection is active.

The Collection is arranged into the following series:

  1. Series 1: Memorabilia of on-slope photographer (Box 1)

Custodial History

This collection consists of gifts from a number of different sources. The business card was a gift of George Slade, an on-slope photographer for Berko Gallery, Aspen, CO, 1981-1982, in 2005.
