Biographical Note
Stuart Alexander Named Editor-in-Chief of Delpire; began his career in museums, notably the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona; in 1982 he began his collaboration with Robert Delpire; arrived in France in 1986; served as archivist and consultant to the Brassaï Estate and was involved in numerous international exhibition and publishing projects; from 1997, Alexander was based in New York as an independent curator and scholar; he worked for major auction houses, including ten years at Christie’s as Vice President and Senior Specialist in Photographs; he contributed essays to exhibition catalogues on Elliott Erwitt, Brassaï and Josef Koudelka.

Stuart Alexander Collection
The Stuart Alexander Collection consists of books, bookdealer catalogues, sales records, magazines, exhibition files, auction sale files, and a scrapbook. The materials range from the beginning of Alexander’s career as a curator, photography historian, editor, and auction specialist in the 1980s to the 1990s and 2000s.
Magnum Photos collection
Research files assembled during work on the book and exhibition In Our Time: The World as Seen by Magnum Photographers. The files were brought together by Stuart Alexander (1955- ), photohistorian, during 1986-1990. Included are copies of Magnum publications and memos, biographical materials, bibliographies, chronologies, correspondence, and clippings pertaining to the history of Magnum Photos and its members. Of special note are the detailed files on individual Magnum photographers.
